Ivory Park is a winner, in many more ways than one. In 2007, the United Nations honoured Johannesburg City Parks with the Liveable Communities (LivCom) Award.
Ivory Park, surrounded by informal settlements, amazed the judges, who could not believe that Johannesburg had created a first-class park in the poorest of poor areas. Yet Ivory Park is the winner for its residents, who, in the years of apartheid, never experienced the joy of open green space. And what a space this is!
