Joburg Zoo’s Mother’s Day concert is back with a bang!! It’s been three years since we celebrated Mzanzi’s matriarch mothers at the Joburg Zoo and this year, we’re going all out!

The pandemic had us cooped up as a nation, yearning for a breather in the outdoors. The relaxed Covid regulations have come at the right time with an opportunity to treat our mothers while enjoying good music with fun-loving people. So put on your dancing shoes, we’re going to have a blast this Sunday, Mother’s Day, 8 May 2022 from 10h00 – 15h00.

The lineup of artists is sure to bring about high spirits. Concert goers can look forward to the South African music legend, PJ Powers who began her singing career in the 1980’s. She holds several gold discs, four platinum and a gold CD, her famous tracks like Feel So Strong and Jabulani will have the crown singing along.

The sultry and talented Amanda Black is a young South African singer and songwriter. Her career began in 1999 at the age of 6 singing in church choirs Her debut studio album Amazulu released in 2016 was a huge success, winning "Album of the Year", "Best Newcomer of the Year," "Best Female Artist of the Year" and "Best R&B Soul/Reggae Album", an accolade of note!

The Muses, an all-female electric string quartet based in Jozi is a high energy band with passion for entertaining their audiences. Effortlessly, fusing classical instruments with contemporary music, The Muses will have you singing along to instrumentals.

Thabo ‘T-Bose’ Mokwele from Kaya FM, has been a broadcaster for the past twenty years but his love for music still soothes listeners nationwide, with a selection distinctly what South Africans love, there is no doubt the crowd will be serenaded. With a clear view of the show, concert goers will not miss a thing. The Joburg Theatre provided their spectacular stage and a crew at no cost, little gift for the moms. Let’s not forget the kiddies! There is a section for the little ones to frolic around jumping castles, a maze and arts and crafts, food vendors, zoo tour guides and all things family.

Concert tickets are available immediately and we encourage visitors to go to the zoo before Sunday to avoid long queues. You may, of course, also by tickets at the entrance on Sunday. Entrance fees are the normal zoo prices of R110 for adults, R65 for pensioners and children over 12 years, children under 12 get to enter for free. Safe parking will be available at the zoo’s main parkade at Upper Park at R16 a vehicle. This long-awaited concert remains a highlight for Joburg residents and aims to honour the role played by mothers of this city and country.
