Strap on your takkies and celebrate the Joburg Zoo’s 121 years for a zoo trot like no other!
Johannesburg Zoo turns 121 years old in March, and we’re going all out. This year’s popular and much-loved Zoo Trot promises an experience like no other for residents, visitors, and avid zoo trotters. We’ll be opening the gates at 6 am this Sunday, 9 March 2025. Tickets are available at the gate for only R37.
The Zoo Trot, which takes place every second Sunday, started as far back as 2000, a whole 25 years ago! Trotters start their Sunday, eagerly participating in a family-friendly 5km or 10km zoo walk or run, surrounded by the serene and scenic environment of the zoo.
Participants, strapped in the takkies, breathing fresh air, while enjoying close-up views of some of the world’s most beloved animals, including the Big Five, monkeys, and zebras and many other species, are bound to have a great start to their new week.
The Trot has become a beloved tradition for locals, offering both a healthy and enjoyable way to connect with nature. Whether you're taking a stroll with your children or tackling a more intense 10km workout, the event is designed to cater to all fitness levels. It’s not just a race; it’s an experience that brings people together, encouraging families, friends, running clubs, and community groups to engage in an active lifestyle while supporting a vital cause—wildlife conservation.
The event continues to attract participants from various sectors, including the public and private sectors, community organizations, and families looking for an active way to spend quality time in the heart of a bustling city. By incorporating both fitness and fun, the Zoo Trot provides the perfect setting to explore the zoo’s lush grounds while participating in a unique fitness experience.
As part of its commitment to support wildlife conservation, all proceeds from the Zoo Trot go directly to the zoo’s animal care, education, and conservation programmes. This initiative helps ensure that future generations can continue to experience the beauty of wildlife while contributing to their protection and preservation.
Join us for a wild and wonderful 5km Zoo Walk Fun Run! Experience the adventure of wildlife while promoting fitness, community, and conservation. Walk, run, and roam with friends and family amidst the beauty of the zoo. Every step you take supports animal care and environmental education. Together, let's make a difference one stride at a time. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with nature, enjoy family fun, and support our mission. Lace up your shoes and be part of the excitement—sign up today!
